In the past, the duo aimed to create and post as much as possible for a year before deleting the channel after it became an overwhelming success, attracting over 4 million subscribers. In the recent development of the story, YouTuber Markiplier streamed live on September 9th with the video title “Ethan is DEAD to me” to publicly call out his ex-Unus Annus co-host, Ethan Nester.
Did Ethan Nestor Betray Gamer Markiplier?
In a recent live stream, which seemed to be a clickbait joke for many, Gamer Markiplier briefly explains how Nestor, aka CrankGameplays, “betrayed” him. Nestor explained that he had talked in confidence to Ethan about a new content idea, which was to do a new series on the indie Steam titled Egghead Gumpty.
Later, he continued to say that days after, Nestor uploaded a video titled “This Is The New Standard For Horror Games,” in which he plays the aforementioned title, which came as a shock for him.

During the live stream, Markipler says that he’s “not doing well” and felt “betrayed,” as well as revealing he has unsubscribed to Ethan Nestor’s channel.
Is Their Beef For Real?
Many online viewers questioned whether their beef was for real or was just clickbait. One user even asked mis-stream if this was all just fake drama to gain some views.
Markiplier replied to the unsure viewer by saying that this being fake would be “absurd” and joking that whoever’s asking is “probably Ethan on his alt account.”
While Markiplier seemingly confirms that this is all real drama between the two, it is still unsure how real the beef between them is, which is something only time will tell. However, Markiplier’s response to the thought that his being “betrayed” was all a satirical bit, and it’s safe to assume that he is probably just joking about the matter.
Why Did Ethan Nestor and Gamer Markiplier Delete Unus Annus?
Ethan and Markiplier did a variety of activities on the channel Unus Annus, and uploaded one episode per day while steering clear of the normal gaming videos they are known for. Nestor-Darling represented the “Unus,” while Mark Fischbach represented the “Annus” persona on the channel.

They first launched the channel and put an expiration date on its existence. The hosts emphasized the importance of living in the moment and that they wanted to make “every second count” in the yearlong deadline as the phrase “Unus Annus” literally means “One Year” in Latin.
Mark and Ethan, as the parents of the channel, made the channel for one purpose, and that was to give its viewers a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
While deleting the channel, the creators sign off each of their videos with another Latin phrase, Memento Mori, and the words translate from Latin to mean “Remember that you have to die,” which is meant to be a reminder of human mortality.
The videos were working against YouTube’s algorithm, but ultimately the channel had to die as the makers planned to make videos only for a year.
