Before I begin, I’d like to note I’m pretty new to this fandom (despite the games being available for at least a couple of years). If this topic has already been officially decided, or my solution has already been stated, I would be glad to know or be corrected.

Introduction
Foxy; a very beloved character by several in the community. No matter what version, no matter how redesigned, s/he never fails to impress.
However, there are several more mysteries that lie beneath those mangled robotic parts and that ripped fabric than a few wires and an endoskeleton.
Today, we will be discussing Five Nights at Freddy’s 1, particularly the mystery of why Foxy is “out of order.” Let’s dive in!

As previously mentioned, I am sure all of us know Foxy is broken in the first game. There are several concepts as to why this is, whether it’s being framed for a bite or simply just being attacked.
However, my answer is neither. It’s rather simple, and perhaps very likely: Foxy was never fully repaired.
That single sentence might seem very confusing, so I’ll gladly elaborate.

Evidence
In the second game, we quickly learn there are two different types of animatronics lurking around in the restaurant: toy robots and withered robots. Our focus will be the withered ones.
The withered robots have (quite noticeably) been left in a state of disrepair, truly living up to their “withered” title. After the events of the second game, however, the old animatronics are put back to use, while the toy versions are retired.
Bonnie, Chica, and Freddy are back in decent shape again, as we can see in the first game (it’s also confirmed that the events of the second are a prequel to the first). However, Foxy is still in desperate need of fixing. It might explain his ripped fabric and awkwardly shaped form; his body being used would result in him looking very torn, and not being sufficiently repaired would leave him that way.
Additionally, we can note that Foxy has a history of being ripped apart, never to be fixed again. Using separate animatronics like Mangle/Toy Foxy (which is extremely deformed due to kids not keeping their hands to themselves) or Funtime Foxy (who doesn’t really look awful, but has portions being used for Ennard) isn’t strong evidence, but it’s something odd to recognize.

Conclusion
I will summarize with what I began with: Foxy is out of order because he never fully recovered from the events of the previous location.
I know I don’t have a lot of proof on this, and therefore, it is difficult to convince you. Despite there not being a lot to back it up with, however, it does make sense. Hopefully, you will ponder this, and perhaps consider this response.
Until next time, check those lights, and shut your doors. You never know when something freaky will be banging at your wall!
(I will try to update this post if I think of anything else or receive help.)
