Georgia is no longer the nation’s top-ranked college football team.
The first College Football Playoff rankings of the season were revealed Tuesday night on ESPN, and the Bulldogs came in at No. 2. Georgia has been ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press poll every week this season, and now sit just below the top of the rankings that will be used to determine who advances to the College Football Playoff at the end of the year.

The Ohio State Buckeyes claimed the top spot in the CFP rankings after key wins against No. 11 Penn State and No. 15 Notre Dame. Rounding out the top four are Michigan at No. 3 and Florida State at No. 4. Ohio State and Michigan are the only two undefeated teams in the Big 10, and it may remain that way until the teams play each other in the final week of the regular season.
Georgia was also ranked No. 2 in last year’s first playoff rankings. They sat behind then-No. 1 Tennessee, who the Bulldogs handily defeated 27-13 the following week. Georgia never relinquished the top spot after that.

Florida State has emerged as a national contender in its fourth year under head coach Mike Norvell, and is currently the ACC’s only unbeaten team. Washington is just outside the top four at No. 5, and is the Pac-12’s only undefeated team after a dramatic Week 7 victory over conference rival Oregon, who is ranked No. 6.
Missouri, Georgia’s opponent this week, comes in at No. 12 after a 7-1 start to the year. The Tigers have been the surprise story of the SEC this year, and will arrive in Athens on Saturday after having nearly upset the Bulldogs in Columbia, Missouri last year. Georgia’s 26-22 victory over the Tigers last year was its closest margin of victory in its undefeated regular season.
The Bulldogs have two other future ranked opponents in this week’s poll, with Ole Miss at No. 10 and Tennessee ranked No. 17. They will play Ole Miss at home on Nov. 11 and travel to Knoxville to play the Volunteers on Nov. 18. Kickoff times for both games have yet to be announced.
