Why Is My Snapchat So Slow

If you’re noticing more and more Snapchat lag on your Android device, it’s time to clear the app cache and reinstall the Snapchat app.

Snapchat keeps bringing new updates with new features throughout the year. However, the updates aren’t always perfect, and there could be bugs. Not one or two, but many.

I have seen my Snapchat app lag quite a few times. For me, if the bug didn’t go away after deleting the cache and data, uninstalling and reinstalling the app usually worked.

7 Ways To Fix Snapchat Lag On Android Devices

1. Restart Your Android Phone

The first step you can try out to fix Snapchat lag is restarting your device. Chances are that the background apps or other temporary files are slowing your phone’s performance.

As you use your phone, more and more processes will pile up, hogging the memory and processor. If you have a habit of never restarting your phone, it can be difficult for all the apps to operate efficiently.

Press and hold the Power button and switch off your Android phone. Wait 4-5 seconds and hold the power button again to turn it on. Check if it’s enough to fix Snapchat lag.

2. Check Your Internet Connection

Before moving forward, I’d suggest checking the internet connection on your phone. Poor network is the first thing that comes to mind when we consider lags and frozen screens with social media apps.

Snapchat photo and video lags usually happen when the WiFi is weak. If there’s a problem with your WiFi, you can restart your router or modem and the app should run fine.

If you’re using mobile data, do a speed test and check if other apps are running properly. You can even call your service provider asking whether there’s a temporary network problem in your area.

If your WiFi or mobile network is working fine, but the Snapchat app is still lagging, keep reading to find more ways to fix it.

3. Update Snapchat App

There is a possibility that an updated version of the Snapchat app is available on the Play Store, but you might have your auto-update settings turned off.

App updates are a means for developers to push new features and fix any existing bugs in their apps. I highly recommend updating to the latest version of Snapchat for an optimal experience.

To update Snapchat:

  1. Open Play Store.
  2. Search for the Snapchat app and tap on it.
  3. You will see an Update button if a newer version is available. Download the updated version of Snapchat.

As a best practice, I recommend having auto-updates enabled on our Android device, so you don’t have to worry about having the latest app versions.

To turn on auto-update:

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. From the top right corner, tap the Profile icon.
  3. Tap Settings, then Network Preferences, and select Auto-update apps.
  4. Select from the options Update apps using either WiFi or mobile data instead of Over any network. Select Over WiFi only if you want to update apps only when connected to WiFi.

4. Clear Cache And Data

Like any other Android app, Snapchat stores cache data on your phone’s memory that help it launch quickly and run more efficiently.

However, this stored data can result in hiccups and slowdowns if it gets accumulated for a long time. Erasing it from time to time can resolve Snapchat stutters and lag problems.

To clear cache files, follow the steps below

  1. Open Settings on your phone.
  2. Click on Apps or Application Manager.
  3. Look for Snapchat and openit.
  4. Select Force stop. Now click on Clear cache and Clear data and confirm when prompted.

Deleting both the cache and data will ensure that all the app files are cleared, and the app is goes to the way it was when you installed it. This also means that you’ll be required to log in to the app again.

5. Uninstall And Reinstall Snapchat

If clearing the cache doesn’t work, another way to fix the Snapchat lagging problem is to uninstall and reinstall Snapchat.

A simple reinstall can fix bugs or glitches and eliminate unnecessary data or corrupted files.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Go to the Google Play Store.
  2. Search for the Snapchat app.
  3. Click Uninstall. Wait for the process to finish.
  4. Once removed, you can again click on Install.

Reinstalling works for a lot of social media apps, and hopefully, it should fix the Snapchat lag as well.

6. Update Device OS

Check if any firmware updates are available on your phone because your apps may not run smoothly when you have device updates pending.

Here’s how to perform a software update:

  1. Open Settings on your Android smartphone.
  2. Tap on System updates (in some devices this option is under the About phone section).
  3. You’ll see if there are any updates available. Click on Download updates and follow the on-screen instructions.

7. Download Older Version Of Snapchat

Well, in most cases, you wouldn’t need to do this because the app issue would have been fixed by now. In case it isn’t, try downloading an older version of the app from the web.

This is recommended because your phone’s firmware might not be fully compatible with the latest version of Snapchat. Or the latest update will have a bug that’s affecting the performance.

You can find the previous versions of Snapchat by searching for “Snapchat APK” on Google and visiting any popular APK provider website. My favorite ones are APKPure and APKMirror.

Just pick an earlier version of the app, download and install it on your phone. If it resolves the lagging issue, you can choose to keep it for some time until the developers release the next patch.

Don’t worry! It’s safe to do and you can always go back to the recent version if it doesn’t solve your problem.

Why Is My Snapchat Slow On Android?

Apps like Snapchat and Instagram require a lot of storage and memory on your device. Plus, they need constant high-speed internet to run smoothly.

On top of that, Snapchat keeps adding new filters and stories, making it difficult for Android phones to cope with. If you use Snapchat filters often, it can increase the load on your device and result in crashes.

Also, Snapchat on Android is optimized far worse than its iOS counterpart. This coupled with slow hardware and poor memory management is the bane of Android users.

In short, slow internet or a slow phone is the main cause of Snapchat lag on Android.

But what if you have both, fast WiFi and a high-end phone? The problem is likely due to junk files or app glitches.

How Do You Speed Up Snapchat on Android?

The quickest way to make your app work faster is by closing all the background apps. It clears a lot of junk files and data and frees up the RAM.

You can also try the following:

  1. Make sure your phone is NOT on Battery Saver mode. Battery saver mode is all about slowing down your phone’s performance to save some battery.
  2. Switch to a faster WiFi or a better service provider if you use mobile data.
  3. Make some room in your phone’s storage. Delete junk folders and good morning images from your phone to keep it clean.
