Detroit Lions receiver Nate Burleson broke his arm in a single-car accident early Tuesday after he reached over to keep two pizza boxes from falling off the front passenger seat, authorities said.
Burleson’s car hit a center median wall on a highway in suburban Detroit and he was taken to a hospital. Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said alcohol wasn’t a factor in the crash at 2:25 a.m.
Coach Jim Schwartz stopped short of writing off the rest of Burleson’s season, but surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.

‘It’s not an emergency surgery,’ Schwartz said. ‘Nate’ll be back at some point, and when he will, he will be a big contributor again to our team.’
The team didn’t say which arm was broken.
Burleson has a team-high 19 catches – 10 for first downs – and his 239 yards receiving trail only teammate Calvin Johnson this season. The 11-year veteran had six receptions for 116 yards, his highest total since 2007, on Sunday to help Detroit win at Washington for the first time in franchise history.
The Oakland Raiders will begin a short week of preparation with uncertainty about who will start at quarterback as Terrelle Pryor recovers from a concussion.
Pryor was knocked out of Monday night’s 37-21 loss at Denver in the fourth quarter after a hard hit to the helmet by Wesley Woodyard. He was replaced by Matt Flynn.
Pryor will not be able to practice until he goes through the league-mandated concussion protocol.
That means the Raiders (1-2) will have to prepare for Sunday’s game against Washington (0-3) with the possibility that either Pryor or Flynn could start.

‘We’ll look at how he’s doing tomorrow,’ coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday. ‘We’ll see whether he’s able to go or not. Then we’ll see as the week goes on and make a determination on what we can do.’
A teenage football fan suffered a concussion and a broken arm and nose at Candlestick Park after police say he was attacked during the San Francisco 49ers 27-7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts this weekend.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that a 29-year-old man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of beating the 15-year-old boy for urinating in the man’s car.
Reports of other assaults at the game were also logged with stadium security.
49ers’ season ticket holder Daisy Barringer said she was kicked and punched by another 49ers fan.
The 36-year-old said she has seen violence at both home games this year, and during the preseason.
Security was increased at the stadium two years ago after two shootings, a beating and fights broke out during a preseason game with the Oakland Raiders.
