He has become an internationally renowned star of film and TV – and now has a famous wife to boot – but Jesse Plemons’ life hasn’t always been plain sailing.

The Breaking Bad star, who is married to Kirsten Dunst, has gone from strength to strength on a series of high profile projects and is now starring in ITV’s Love & Death with Elizabeth Olsen.

Jesse Plemons on his weight gain and weight loss

It was a common reaction when Breaking Bad returned for its follow on film El Camino, because Todd actor Jesse Plemons was playing the same character in what was supposed to be the same timeframe as Breaking Bad, but suddenly looked much bigger.

“Everyone’s like, ‘You gained all this weight!’ I was like, ‘No, I’ve been fat for a while now.’”

“It’s bizarre that that’s all people wanted to talk about.

But his secret to weight loss was pretty simple.

He told GQ Magazine: “Well, I was eating everything, and then I just stopped eating terrible food.”

He later told Interview: “Something clicked in my head and I got tired of carrying all that extra weight around.

“I got asked to do a scene in this movie and I was playing a soldier, and I was like, ‘I don’t know many soldiers that are my size.’ So like everyone else, I started doing intermittent fasting, cut carbs, all that stuff. It’s easy if you just actually do it”

Jesse Plemons’ marriage to Kirsten Dunst and children together

Jesse met Spiderman star and all round Hollywood sweetheart Kirsten Dunst in 2016 when the pair were filming US TV drama Fargo.

The couple played an on-screen couple and it clearly bled through into their real lives, as the pair began dating and got engaged a year later in 2017. They are now married and have two kids.

Kirsten Dunst previously said it wasn’t ‘love right away’ but there was an ‘immediate soul connection’, presumably beyond both being red haired.

She previously told the Times: “I didn’t think love right away. Although one of my best friends told me that I’d said to her, after about two weeks of knowing him, ‘I will know him for the rest of my life.’ There was an immediate soul connection.”

A source told PageSix that the pair said ‘I do’ in Jamaica at the luxury GoldenEye resort in Ocho Rios but they have kept their marriage very private. A spokesperson for Kirsten told the Mirror: “I can just confirmed they got married. No other details will be given.”

Breaking Bad breakthrough and cruel nickname

Jesse Plemons was first known as chilling psycho Todd in Breaking Bad to many worldwide, but in the US the Texas born star first broke through as a child star on Friday Night Lights.

In 2006, at the age of 18, Plemons joined the cast of the NBC series but according to legend, his contract was not renewed because Jesse was ‘too good’ and the producers didn’t want to hold him back. Immediately after he left, he picked up the role of Todd in Breaking Bad’s final series.

Entertainment Weekly reported: “Executive producer Jason Katims confirms that the actor’s contract option was not picked up. “With Jesse — as with previous cast members who have moved on — Pete Berg, myself and the producers of the show let the storytelling guide us,” he explains, “and we feel we didn’t have substantial enough storylines to justify keeping such an immensely talented actor from pursuing what we know will continue to be a very successful career.”

Then, Breaking Bad fans cruelly nicknamed him ‘Meth Damon’ because of his likeness to actor Matt Damon in the ABC series about a pair of crystal meth dealers famously played by Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul (Walter White and Jesse Pinkman).

Since then he has appeared in Fargo, El Camino and in Black Mirror’s Star Trek spoof episode opposite How I Met Your Mother star Cristin Milioti.

Now Jesse is starring in HBO’s Love & Death, which has been picked up by ITV in the UK and is streaming exclusively on ITVX.

The series is based on the true story of Candy Montgomery, a housewife from Texas who is living a stereotypical housewife lifestyle in the late 1970s. She has to go before a jury after an affair with her friend from church – played by Plemons – leads to a killing.
