This week it was announced the cast of The Bob & Tom Show would be taking a break, which has worried listeners who are now curious to know the reason behind their absence.

On Monday (1 August), the B&T VIP Status Twitter account confirmed The Bob & Tom Show cast would be “taking some time off” air across the next two mornings.

What happened to The Bob & Tom Show?

On Monday, a best of edition of The Bob & Tom Show was reportedly aired, with some users on Twitter at the time wondering why it was scheduled in place of its usual show.

The run of the best of the show aired after an update from the B&T VIP Status Twitter account clarified the show would not have a live stream for the next two mornings due to the cast “taking some time off.”

As per a Twitter user, the live stream page on the Bob and Tom website has a note that states they are expected to return on Thursday (4 August).

The cast’s absence follows the sudden passing of The Bob & Tom Show co-host Tom Griswold’s son Charlie. Griswold’s older son Willie who also features on The Bob & Tom Show’s hosting team announced the news of his brother’s passing on Instagram on Monday.

In a post just hours after it was revealed the show’s cast would be taking a break over the next new days, Willie confirmed his “little brother Charlie” died on Friday (29 July).

The radio show launched almost four decades ago

Radio veterans Bob Kevoian and Tom Griswold launched their eponymous show in March 1983 on Indianapolis station Q95 aka WFBQ-FM.

Twelve years after the show was initially launched, the show went on to become nationally syndicated in 1995. It has since gone on to be broadcast on more than 100 stations, and next year is set to mark 40 years since its launch.

In 2015 the show’s success saw both Kevoian and Griswold inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame.

Bob has since retired but Tom has no plans to just yet

After more than three decades of co-hosting the show, in 2015, it was announced that Bob Kevoian would be stepping down from the show.

While he is no longer a part of the show’s run these days, he has popped back to visit as a guest. Two years after his retirement in 2017, he guest hosted a show, and in 2020 he featured on the show via Zoom.

Tom Griswold is still hosting the show almost four decades on, and in an interview with the IBJ Podcast in January, he admitted he does not plan to step down anytime soon. He explained: “I don’t intend to retire anytime time soon. I really enjoy doing it.”
