NFL commissioner Roger Goodell appeared before the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Reform Wednesday via Zoom to answer questions regarding the Washington Commanders investigation.
Members of the Committee each received five minutes to question Goodell. Many of the questions were repeated over and over; some talked over Goodell, refusing to allow him to answer questions, while others were bizarre or hilarious?

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) used his time with Goodell to ask him other questions not pertaining to the Washington investigation. Jordan first asked Goodell if he believed in freedom of press, freedom of speech, etc., to which Goodell replied “yes.”
Then, Jordan asked Goodell: “Why did you ban Dave Portnoy from NFL games?”
Portnoy is the founder of Barstool Sports and has feuded with Goodell and NFL for several years.
How did Goodell respond? “Uh, Congressman, I am not familiar with that issue,” Goodell said. “I’m happy to check with my staff, but I’m not aware of that.”
Jordan said, “Really, I think we’re all aware of that.”
Goodell’s issues with Portnoy are due to the Barstool founder’s criticism of him over the years. That led to Portnoy’s ban from NFL games. More specifically, Barstool Sports was banned from NFL games after staging a protest at NFL headquarters over Tom Brady’s suspension due to Deflategate in 2015.

Portnoy was forcibly removed from Super Bowl LIII in Feb. 2019.
In 2020, the NFL began a contest to benefit COVID-19 relief during the 2020 NFL draft, and the winner would watch a game with Goodell. Portnoy won with a bid of $250,000. It never happened, as an NFL spokesman said Portnoy failed a background check due to the previous issues with the NFL.

As for Jordan, he did ask Goodell about something Commanders-related. Jordan questioned Goodell if he agreed with Jack Del Rio’s fine for his comments two weeks ago. Goodell said he had nothing to do with the fine, that it was Ron Rivera’s decision, and he respected Rivera.
