Rost Profile and Backstory
Personality
A constant figure in Aloy’s life, Rost is the father figure that has guided her as she’s grown up. As a warrior, he’s quiet, devout, and stalwart, patiently instilling his lessons. At the same time, despite his skill and past as a warrior, he is still a Nora Outcast that refuses to let go of the tribe’s traditions.

Regardless of the past that he keeps so tight lipped about, he loves Aloy like his own daughter and raises her as such. He eventually would pay the ultimate sacrifice for his love, giving his life to protect Aloy.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Before he became an outcast, Rost was a Nora Brave living with his partner and daughter in Mother’s Vigil (now the Forsaken Village). But during a raid by outlanders,his partner was lost and his daughter, Alana, along with several others were taken as hostages. Along with several other Braves, he followed the group at a distance to protect the hostages from being killed. In the end their efforts were for naught as the remaining hostages, including his daughter, were murdered by the raiders and their bodies left just outside the Nora Sacred Lands to mock them. The raiders thought themselves safe from vengance as no faithful Nora would dare leave the Sacred Lands.
Rost begged the Matriarchs to make him a Death-Seeker, one who is considered spiritually dead to the tribe and brings death to those they seek. After the ritual, he left the sacred lands to return the bodies of the slain and became a weapon of vengeance for those they had lost, following the trail of all the outlanders for a year. He came back heavily injured and would have died right at the border of the sacred lands, had a Nora Brave not broken their traditions and brought him to their side. Despite their traditions being broken, the Matriarchs could not bring themselves to send Rost back out and instead made him an outcast sworn to secrecy.
After Aloy was found, the Matriarch Teersa turned to Rost to care for her and raise her, hoping that he would bring Aloy up to respect the tribe’s traditions and worship the All-Mother. He did that and more, helping her grow into the warrior she is and prepare her for the Proving.

During the Proving, when it seems that Aloy is at death’s door, Rost intervenes and saves her. In doing so, he gave his life to preserve her own and perished in the mountain.
Horizon Forbidden West
It has not been revealed whether we may see Rost once more in Horizon Forbidden West.
Skills and Abilities
Tracker and Fighter
Rost has not only proved his fighting prowess being a Nora Brave, but has also shown his skills in tracking and hunting by pursuing the outlanders that caused the death of his daughter. His pursuit brought him all over, and with his skill, brought down ever member of the outlander group.
